English Tutorials: KS1-3
Herefordshire Tutor use a variety of ways to inspire our students' curiosity in English. Please see below:
Bond No-Nonsense Books
For KS1 and KS2, these are absolutely ideal.
Each section is pithy (short), and always hammers home an important skill.
Bond Assessment Papers
These books are differentiated by "age" (ability).
Some students cope best when they're presented with one topic at a time, and we plan for this accordingly.
However, we like that these papers throw various topics at the student:
- "You've just done a question on synonyms? Well done. Now analyse this passage of text."
What is good about this approach is that it highlights areas for development in our students' knowledge.
Sample Lesson: Triangle Pairing
Whilst students do have to get a bit of writing done, we are fond of this teaching method.
Students look at a question on the edge (side) of a triangle (or square). On another triangle's edge, there will be the answer.
When all edges are matched, the triangles fit together to make a larger shape: it's surprisingly satisfying!
